Case Study
The State of Florida’s foster care system utilized an antiquated system for keeping track of the kids’ medical records. The records were managed in a blue folder, so cutting edge technology in 1440. (When Gutenberg invented the printing press) This resulted in records being lost, and thus kids falling through the cracks.
Situation:
To modernize health records management within the foster care system through an integrated health records platform—ensuring continuity of care and preventing children from falling through the cracks
Task:
Action:
The initiative began by securing a key stakeholder within state government to champion the effort. Leveraging existing relationships, I led engagement with a State Senator in Florida and developed a scoped project proposal to formalize the initiative. Recognizing the need for federal support to move the project forward, I facilitated an introduction to the then-U.S. Senator (now Secretary of State). I spent a week in Washington, D.C., collaborating with the Senator’s office to refine cost estimates, assess return on investment, and align on implementation strategies to ensure program viability and impact.
AHA ITN 012-23/24AD was released in the state of Florida. Through our efforts, the bid was released and awarded for a statewide Health Information Exchange, not just the foster program.
